Photon Energy is developing a 316 MW solarpower plant near Gunning, New South Wales, that would currentlymake it the biggest PV project in the state and one of the largestplanned in Australia, comparable in size to conventional utilityscale power stations. The solar power plant, which would beconstructed on 590 ha of land, is currently going through thePermitting and Grid Connection process. Construction could start inearly 2019.
The project is progressing through the NewSouth Wales government State Significant Development process. Atthe same time the grid Connection Process is underway with Transgrid, the local operator ofthe major high voltage transmission network, for the design of asubstation for approximately 300 MW AC to be connected toTransgrid’s 330 KV network.
“Gunning is to date the largest solarproject Photon Energy is developing with a view of making amaterial contribution to Australia’s goal of meeting its renewableenergy target”, said Michael Gartner, ManagingDirector of Photon Energy Australia.Photon Energy is alsodeveloping further large-scale solar power plants with a combinedcapacity of 42 MWp in Australia.
“Today’s announcement putsus into a leading position in the Australian market forutility-scale solar projects and confirms our ability to identifysuitable locations in the world’s sunniest continent and reinforcesour commitment to contribute substantially to the transformation ofAustralia’s energy mix towards renewable energy sources”,explained Georg Hotar, Chief Executive Officerof Photon Energy NV.
